Why indoor air matters
The US Environmental Protection Agency points out that we spend about 90% of our time indoors (US EPA, indoor air quality (opens in a new tab)). On the Gulf Coast, homes are closed up with the AC running for much of the year, so the system moves the same air over and over.
We have used Freers services a few times and they have always been kind, professional, and knowledgeable. We will continue to be repeat customers when needed.
How a UV purifier works
A UV light is mounted inside the air handler, aimed at the coil and the air moving past it. It’s quiet, it works whenever the system runs, and you don’t see it. The EPA’s guide to air cleaners in the home (opens in a new tab) explains the different types and what each can and can’t do.
Start with the basics
- Check your filter monthly and change it when it’s dirty
- Keep the coil and drain line clean. Our maintenance agreement covers both
- Keep supply and return vents open and clear
- Ask us about the right filter for your system
If you notice musty smells, dust that keeps coming back, or rooms that feel damp, tell us. We’ll look for the cause before recommending a product.
Questions people ask about indoor air quality
What is a UV air purifier?
A UV light installed inside your heating and cooling system. It shines on the coil and the air moving past it. Freer’s installs Fresh-Aire UV purifiers.
Will a UV light help with musty smells?
Musty smells often come from moisture in the system or the house. A UV light on the coil can help with growth on the coil itself. We’ll look for the source before recommending anything.
Do air cleaners replace changing my filter?
No. Keep changing or cleaning your filter on schedule. ENERGY STAR suggests checking it monthly.
