Signs your AC needs repair
Call us if your system is doing any of these:
- Blowing warm or room-temperature air
- Running all day without bringing the temperature down
- Water pooling by the indoor unit, or a drain line that keeps clogging
- Ice on the copper lines or the indoor coil
- Turning on and off every few minutes (short cycling)
- Buzzing, grinding or squealing from the outdoor unit
- A summer power bill much higher than last year’s
Not sure what’s going on? Our season matcher explains common problems and what you can safely check yourself.
Why AC trouble can’t wait here
The average July high around Pensacola is 91.6°F, and nights stay warm, around 75°F (Florida Climate Center, 1991–2020 normals for Pensacola (opens in a new tab)). A house can heat up fast with the AC off. Humidity makes it worse: an AC removes moisture as well as heat, which is also why clogged drain lines are so common here.
Quick fix by very knowledgeable, and polite professional team. August is not the time of year you want to repair your AC, but up and running again in one days time. I am glad I called Freer Heating and Air Conditioning.
What happens on an AC repair visit
- We ask what you’re seeing. When it started, what it sounds like, what you’ve already tried.
- We test the system. Electrical parts, refrigerant pressures, airflow, the drain line and the thermostat.
- We explain the cause and the cost. In plain English, before any work. You decide.
- You OK the cost, we fix it. Nothing gets done until you’ve agreed to the price.

The most common AC repairs we make
- Capacitors and contactors. The parts that start the outdoor unit. Heat is hard on them.
- Clogged condensate drains. Algae and dust block the line and trip the safety switch, or water leaks.
- Refrigerant leaks. Low refrigerant means poor cooling and frozen coils. We find the leak rather than just topping it off.
- Fan motors. Outdoor fan and indoor blower motors wear out.
- Thermostats. Dead, miswired or failing thermostats.

Safe checks before you call
- Set the thermostat to Cool, a few degrees below the room temperature, and replace its batteries
- Check the breakers for the indoor and outdoor units
- Replace a dirty air filter
- Clear plants and debris 2 feet back from the outdoor unit
Leave the panels closed. AC units run on high voltage and hold pressurized refrigerant. Repairs inside the unit are a job for a licensed technician.
Questions people ask about AC repair
Can you come out today?
It depends on the schedule. We work Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and don’t offer nights, weekends or emergency calls.
Do you fix every brand of AC?
Yes. We repair central air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems from every manufacturer.
Should I repair my AC or replace it?
If the system is fairly young and the repair is modest, repair it. If it’s older, needs a major part like a compressor, or keeps breaking, a new system may cost less over time. We’ll give you an honest answer either way. See repair or replace.
How much does AC repair cost?
Every job is different, so we don’t publish a price list. We’ll tell you what’s wrong and what it costs before we start. Active-duty and retired military get 10% off repairs.
Why does water keep leaking from my indoor unit?
Usually a clogged condensate drain line. Air conditioners pull a lot of water out of humid Gulf Coast air, and algae and dust can block the line. Turn the system off and call us.
